Dr. Robert K. Stirling, 78 years of age passed away Sunday, September 7, 2008 in Vero Beach, Florida. He was born June 10, 1930 in Detroit, MI to the late Matthew McNichol Stirling and the late Mary (Smiley) Stirling. Dr. Robert Stirling married Dr. Marie H. (Strakis) Stirling on February 14, 1955.
Robert has lived in Indianapolis, IN for most of his life. He was a 1948 Denby High School Graduate in Detroit, Michigan, a 1952 Graduate of Wayne State University, and a 1955 Graduate of Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was a member of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, IN. Dr. Stirling was of Scottish descent as a first generation American. His sister, Isabelle was born in Scotland. He often visited with many Scottish Relatives in Glasgow, Dumfries, and Bonnybridge Scotland. His two closest surviving cousins, Stanley (Margaret) Young and Miller (Helen) Young reside in Scotland. He also played bagpipes in the Detroit Chrysler Bagpipe Band for 4 years. He practiced family medicine together with his wife, Marie and Daughter, Nancy at Stirling Clinic in Decatur Township for over 50 years. He was Chairman of Building Committee at Westview Hospital during the early years of development and also served on the Board of Directors of the hospital for 20 years. He was also the Team Physician for Decatur Central High School Athletic Teams for many years.
Robert is survived by his Wife, Marie H. (Strakis) Stirling of Indianapolis, IN; 3 Children: Drs. Mary (Seth) Baker, Dr. Nancy (Scott) Stirling Smith, and Robert K. (Tanya) Stirling Jr.; 7 Grandchildren: Andrew and Meredith Baker, Matthew Stirling Hadley, Chianne East, Lucas Garver, Austin and Mackenzie Stirling; and also 6 Great Grandchildren: Camden, Cade, Colton, Baynx and Molly Marie.
There will be a Memorial Service for Dr. Robert K. Stirling at 1:00pm, Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Jones Crossing Banquet Center. Following the Memorial Service, they will be having a Reception/Visitation from 2-5pm, Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Jones Crossing Banquet Center next to Jones Family Mortuary.
