Dorothy Anne Orr

December 7, 1930 — July 17, 2021

Hiram, Ohio Dorothy Anne Orr 90 years of age Dorothy Orr was welcomed into the heavenly kingdom on July 17, 2021. Dorothy was born December 7, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of John E. Spencer and Aileen A. (Hershey) Spencer. Dorothy graduated from Aurora High School in 1948 and then went on to earn her Bachelor's of Art's degree majoring in Psychology and a minor in Sociology from Kent State University in 1952. In 1971 she earned her Master's degree in Education with an emphasis on Rehabilitation Counseling, also from Kent State. Dorothy was immersed in her Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. She was very involved in humanitarian missions traveling to China, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Kazakhstan to help spread the word of Christianity, to Guatemala to help build an orphanage, and many other places. Dorothy was a homemaker raising five children and taking care of a prominent home in Hiram that was originally built by the President of Hiram College. After her youngest child was in high school, Dorothy began working for Hiram College in the bookstore and remained there for the rest of her career. She enjoyed working with students, professors, and Hiram residents. At 65 years old, she was still riding her bike home for lunch every day. She was very kind and always had time for anyone who needed her. Dorothy is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator. Dorothy was blessed with a large loving family. She is survived by her sister Doris Aldrich of Doylestown Ohio, children Mike (Annie) Orr of Orlando, Florida, Dan (Cathy) Orr of Leslie, Michigan, Kathy (Jerry) Hacker of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jenny August (Jack Lange) of Mantua Ohio, and Marianne (Steve) Daczko, also of Mantua. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Neil Spencer, and son Charles D. Orr. At her request, there will be no public services. The family gratefully declines flowers but would request that any donations be made to the Kent State University Brain Health Research Institute or the Alzheimer Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville, Indiana and Fioritto Funeral Service, Lyndhurst, OH.
