Dorothea Edith Milburn

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothea Edith (Handlon) Milburn, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on August 26, 2026, at the age of 72. Born in Indianapolis, to her parents Jesse Lee and Betty Jean (Johnson) Handlon, Dorothea lit up the lives of everyone she encountered with her compassionate spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering dedication to family. She married Mark Alan Milburn on June 17, 1994 and the two spent 32 beautiful years together.

Dorothea graduated from George Washington High School in 1972 and spent over three decades as the General Manager for Hardees, where she earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues and patrons alike. Her work ethic and commitment to excellence were matched only by her love for those around her. Known for her joyous spirit, she could often be found indulging in a bit of friendly gambling at the casino, relishing the thrill of the slot machines while sharing in the delight of all her loved ones around her.

She cherished her family deeply and found immeasurable joy in spending time with her family. Each moment spent with her kids and grandkids was a precious treasure, creating a legacy of laughter and love that will endure throughout the generations.

Dorothea is survived by her devoted husband, Mark Milburn, and her three daughters Nancy Bachman (Bill), Heather Winkle (Shawn), and Laurie Pipes (Christopher), her 13 grandchildren Ashley (Sean), Timothy (Crystal), Ross (Kagan), Evelyn, Bryan, Tre, Kylie (David), Tyler, Kia, Hallie, Ethan, Spencer, and Lily, and her 13 great grandchildren. Along with her seven siblings, Timothy Handlon, Rosie Handlon, Forest Handlon, Shawn Handlon, Susie Handlon, Kimberly Handlon, and Diane Handlon.

She is preceded in death by her son, John "Duke" Doughty; granddaughter, Katie Bachman; her parents; and four siblings: Michael Handlon, Dave Lee Handlon, Jesse Handlon, and Charlie Handlon.

Family and friends may gather for public visitations at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville on Tuesday, September 1, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and on Wednesday, September 2 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am providing all the opportunity to celebrate Dorothea's remarkable life. A Funeral Service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 2 at 11:00 am. A Cryptside Service will be held at Floral Park Cemetery at 1:00 pm, allowing family and friends to gather in a moment of remembrance.

As we come together to honor Dorothea, we invite those who knew and loved her to join us as we reflect on the beautiful memories created throughout her life, a life dedicated to family, laughter, and unyielding love. Her spirit will forever remain a guiding light in our hearts.
