It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Donna Rae Kahrer, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us on August 2, 2026, in Indianapolis. Born in Bloomington, to her parents Harley E. and Aggness (Foster) Richardson, on January 7, 1936, Donna lived a life marked by resilience, humor, and an unwavering commitment to her family. She married the late Roy W. Kahrer on December 19, 2009.

Donna dedicated many years to serving others as a Nurse Aide at Bon Secours Hospital in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, where she treated patients with compassion and care. Her journey through life also included roles in property management and hospitality, and she even graced the Bloomington Police and Fire Department as a dispatcher, showcasing her multifaceted talents and ability to support her community.

Known for her strong will and infectious humor, Donna was a fierce protector of her family, always putting their needs above her own. With a love for writing, listening to music, and watching classic westerns, she filled her life with creativity and passion. Whether sharing stories or curling up with a good film, Donna created moments that her loved ones will cherish forever.

She is survived by her two sons, Earl Helton (Julie) of Farmersburg, Indiana, and Tony Helton of Greenwood. Her legacy continues through her six grandchildren: Mike, A.J., Ellen, Nick, Vincent, and Eric, along with several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Donna is also remembered by her two brothers, Steve Richardson (Mary) and Larry Riddle; and her two sisters, Kathy Shields and Karol Richardson.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Roy Kahrer; four sons: Michael Helton, David Helton, Randy Helton, and Gary Helton; two granddaughters: Kimberly Helton and Courtney Hettle; as well as her brother, Harley Richardson. Though her absence will be keenly felt, Donna's spirit will continue to thrive through her family and the countless lives she touched.

A celebration of Donna's remarkable life will be held at a future date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and memories of this extraordinary woman. Burial will take place in West Newton Cemetery for a private graveside service.

In Donna's honor, let us remember her strength, her love for her family, and the joy she brought into our lives. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
