It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darlene R. Longardner, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world on December 15, 2025, in her adopted hometown of Bloomington, Indiana. Born on June 22, 1938, to her parents Johannes "John" James and Elizabeth (Luurtsema) Rooze, Darlene embraced life with a zest that was palpable to everyone who knew her.
A proud graduate of Monrovia High School, class of 1956, she dedicated her life to helping others and creating joyful moments. Darlene served as the Events Coordinator for Lifeway Baptist Church in Ellettsville, a role that perfectly complemented her passion for bringing people together. In her commitment to her community, she also volunteered at Open Arms Orphanage, offering her love and support to those in need. Darlene was known for her selflessness and faithfulness, and she infused her surroundings with a spunky spirit that was infectious. She had an incredible talent for scrapbooking and took great joy in crafting care packages, which she lovingly delivered to local hospitals, spreading warmth and kindness wherever she went.
Darlene leaves behind her two devoted sons, Jerry Gross of Bloomington and Todd Gross (Laura) of Bloomington, along with five cherished grandchildren: Matthew Gross (Samantha), John Gross, Taylor Russell (Chase), Jourdan Carroll (Brandon), and Payton Gross. Her heart was further brightened by the arrival of her great-grandchild, Emberlee Gross. Darlene was preceded in death by both her parents and six siblings: John, Clayton, Raymond, Gordon, Uldene, and Charlene.
A celebration of Darlene's remarkable life will be held on December 18, 2025. Family and friends are invited to gather at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service for a public visitation starting at 12:00 PM. The funeral service will take place at 1:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Mooresville Cemetery in Mooresville.
In her passing, Darlene's spirit will continue to live on in our hearts and in the countless lives she touched with her unwavering love and compassion. She was a fighter who never met a stranger, and her legacy of kindness will shine brightly in the memories we share.
