Charles W. Stanton, 89, of Greenwood, passed away Monday, December 23rd, 2024. He was born October 20th, 1935 in Albany, Indiana to his parents Haskel Glen and Hazel A. (Manor) Stanton. He married the late Thelma M. (Harmon) Stanton on April 17th, 1955.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Teresa Stanton of Indianapolis; his son, John Stanton (Rita) of Greenwood; two granddaughters: Michelle Stanton and Claire "CJ" Stanton; and several nieces and nephews. Charles is preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife, Thelma M. Stanton; and nine siblings: Max Stanton, Roberta Stanton, Martha Stover, Fern Pippen, Clifford Stanton, Tim Stanton, Ruby Long, Evelyn Stanton, and Myron Stanton.
Charles, a proud 1953 graduate of Dunkirk High School, exemplified dedication and service by joining the Air Force during peacetime. For 26 impactful years, he was an Air Traffic Controller at the Air Traffic Control Center in Indianapolis, achieving the rank of GS-14 before retiring in 1987.
His commitment to community shone through his long-standing membership in the Decatur Central Lions Club. A passionate golfer, he found joy in fishing and boating, reflecting his love for the outdoors. Family was at the heart of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them. Later in life, Charles delighted in watching sports on television and relished the time spent dining out with loved ones. He was widely known as a caring and giving man, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to a visitation to honor and provide support on Monday, December 30th, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville. A private burial of Charles's earthly remains will take place at a later date at West Newton Cemetery in West Newton. The arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville.
