Charlene King, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on March 23, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on August 23, 1951, in Indianapolis, to her parents Charles Sweazey and Beulah M. (Bridges) Abbott, Charlene was a spirited and determined woman who carried her bright personality through every chapter of her life. She married the late Kenneth R. "Kenny" King Jr. on July 7, 2001, and the two spent he spent 24 beautiful years together before his passing in 2025. She graduated from George Washington High School before beginning a distinguished 25-year career as a Clerk at the State of Indiana Voter Registration Department, a role that showcased her dedication to public service.
Charlene was fiercely proud of her military affiliations, serving as a devoted member of the local V.F.W. and the American Legion Post #64. She had a love for life that was infectious; her passion for gambling and frequent trips to the casinos often led to tales shared with laughter and joy. Traveling was another of her great loves, with Florida and cruises holding a special place in her heart. Those who knew her would remember her as a spunky, witty woman who was strong-willed and unafraid to stand her ground-traits that she instilled in her children and grandchildren.
Charlene leaves behind a loving family: her daughter Amy Kinkead (Robert) of Indianapolis and her son Donnie McGlothlin (Jennifer) of Gosport. She was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren-Jacob, Casey, Don III, Samantha, Tyler, Jonathan, Vanessa, Nicholas, Lauren, Mark, and Kaitlyn-along with 8 great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy. She is also survived by her two sisters, Pam Estep and Sherry Priola.
Charlene is preceded in death by her husband, Kenny King Jr.; both of her parents; and her sister, Judy Bennett. Her legacy will forever be woven into the lives of those who cherished her.
A celebration of life for Charlene will be held at a later date, offering family and friends a chance to gather, share memories, and celebrate the remarkable life she lived. The family extends warm invitations to all who wish to honor her legacy.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville.
