It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carl Samuel "Sam" Clem III, who left this world on June 9, 2026, at the age of 45. Born on November 23, 1980, in Indianapolis, to his parents Carl S. Clem Jr. and Sherrie Lynn (Akers) Garland, Sam was a beloved son, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and a loyal friend. He grew up in the Indianapolis area, later graduating with honors from Ben Davis High School in 1999, where he earned a reputation for his tenacity and dedication to his studies.

For over a decade, Sam passionately served as a Boiler Operator at IU Health Gas Company in Bloomington, contributing to the community with his diligence and expertise. Sam was not just an employee; he was a dedicated member of the working community, proudly committed to his craft.

Sam found joy in the simple pleasures of life-fishing with family, listening to music, and spending time in good company. He was a sports enthusiast, with a particular fondness for NASCAR and baseball card collecting. An avid fan of Star Wars, he carried a sense of wonder and adventure that resonated with all around him. His collection of Air Jordans was as impressive as his collection of cherished memories, and he showed his love for life through his deep appreciation for his pets, especially his furry companions.

More than anything, Sam treasured his family. He is survived by his three wonderful children: Gage Clem and his wife Brianna of Seffner, Florida, Kelsi "Beans" Clem of Plainfield, and Allissa "Joe/Jeans" Davis and her husband Zavonni of Indianapolis. He was a proud grandfather to Wrenley, Carson, and Maisie Clem, whose laughter and love brought him immense joy. Sam is also survived by his parents, Carl Clem Jr. and Sherrie Akers, two brothers, James Clem and his wife Breonna, and Brandon Black, his devoted maternal grandmother, Betty Akers, many nieces and nephews, his fur baby, MiMi, and he was grandpa to Nookster, Will Off A Pill, Luce Magoose, and Chops. He was preceded in death by his niece, Alexis Clem, maternal grandfather, Jerry Akers, and dad, Robin Black.

Sam was known for his candidness and humor, often expressing his honest opinions with memorable phrases like, "It is what it is, man," and "You don't need a bus pass." Those who knew him would agree that he was hard-headed yet loved deeply, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those around him.

In heartfelt gratitude, the family extends special thanks to Diversity Church in Indianapolis for their unwavering support through the years.

Family and friends are invited to join in remembrance during the first public visitation at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, June 19.
