Betty Jane Delashmit, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on June 29, 1932, in Indiana, Betty lived a life rich in love and community, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew her. She married the late John Thomas "Tom" Delashmit on December 24, 1950. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of calling her family and friend.
A proud graduate of Plainfield High School's Class of 1950, Betty dedicated her life to her family and home as a devoted homemaker. Her warmth and benevolence touched many hearts, earning her a reputation as a giving and congenial woman, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Betty was also a vibrant member of her community, participating in a Square Dancing Club and the Bible Study Fellowship, enriching her life and the lives of those around her.
Betty was an active member of Mt. Gilead Christian Church in Mooresville, where her faith and kindness radiated through many gatherings. She cherished traveling and found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
Betty is survived by her three loving children: Andrew "Andy" Delashmit (Sharon) of California, Alan Delashmit (Ilene) of New York, and Sandra "Sandy" Michel (Hilary) of Tennessee. Her legacy continues through her eight grandchildren: Heath, Joel, Heather, Ruth, Joshua, Jeremy, Ashley, and Amber, along with 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also lovingly remembered by her previous daughter-in-law, Jeanine Delashmit of Plainfield.
Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John "Tom" Delashmit; her granddaughter, Jennifer "Jenny"; her brother, Leo Rybolt; and both of her parents, leaving her family to carry her memory forward.
To honor Betty's remarkable life and the love she shared, funeral services will be held on May 14, 2026. A public visitation will take place at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service at 12:00 PM. The funeral service is scheduled to commence at 1:00 PM, culminating with a graveside service at Fairview Cemetery in North Salem at 2:30 PM.
In celebrating Betty's life, we remember her selflessness and kindness, her encouragement, and her unwavering love. She may be gone, but her spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she touched throughout her beautiful journey on this earth.
