Bettie Jo (George) Martin, 93, of Plainfield, passed away Saturday, May 18th, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 21st, 1931, in Bloomfield, Indiana to her parents Bert George and Mable Easton. She married her loving husband, Richard Joseph Martin of 74 years on January 21st, 1950.
Bettie is survived by her husband, Richard Joseph Martin of Plainfield; seven children: Sheri Fernung (Lloyd) of Greenwood, Debi Garrigus (Rick) of Mooresville, Shannon Martin of Greenwood, Keith Martin (Barb) of Greenfield, Dana Martin of Mooresville, Vicki Richmond (Bill) of Plainfield, and Kim Newkirk (Ron) of Brownsburg; 17 grandchildren, and several great and great-great grandchildren.
Bettie is preceded in death by her parents, one grandson; Colin Richmond, and two brothers: June and Bus George.
Bettie was a very proud homemaker. A loving wife and mother of seven, she took pride in what she did at home. For five years, she worked at NAPA Autoparts in the office doing clerical work. Bettie was a member of Bridgeport Nazarene Church for several years, along with belonging to the Mooresville Church of the Nazarene, now known as Lifepoint Community Church of the Nazarene. Some of her hobbies were cooking, sewing, and gardening. Her most adored hobby was raising her precious children. Bettie was known to be many things, such as a little ball of dynamite, spitfire, tough as nails, and feisty. Most of all, she was known to be the sweetest person.
Friends and family may show their love and support from 1 to 2 pm on Friday, May 24th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. Pastor Randall Garring will officiate the celebration of life service at 2 pm following the visitation on Friday, May 24th at the Funeral Home. Bettie will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
