Bessie Rutherford

Bessie Amalee Rutherford, 91, of Martinsville, IN, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2006. She was born May 11, 1914 in Lee County, VA to the late John and Lucy (Housley) Ray. She was married to the late Roy R. Rutherford in 1935.She lived in Martinsville for most of her life but also lived in Lee County, VA for 41 years. She was a homemaker for most of her life, however she was also a waitress at Finchman's Restaurant in Monrovia, IN for 5 years, and she also worked at Ramey's Laundry Mat in Martinsville, IN for 16 years. She is survived by 7 children: Barbara (Gene) Fleenor of Big Stone Gap, VA, Roy Kenneth (Loretta) Rutherford of Martinsville, IN, Paul Raymond (Mary Alice) Rutherford of Martinsville, IN, Anna Mae (Tommy) Wagner of Martinsville, IN, Geneva Thompson of Martinsville, IN; 19 Grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; 1 sister, Jenny Perry ; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by 5 brothers: Aurther, Blain, Innis, Emmett Ray, and John and 3 sisters: Gertrude Ball, Mae Minks, and Emily Ray. Calling hours will be 5:30-7:30pm, Thursday, March 9, 2006 with the funeral beginning at 7:30, Thursday, March 9, 2006. The services are at JONES FAMILY MORTUARY. The service will be officiated by Gene Fleenor. Bessie will be laid to rest at Forest Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN. On Friday morning there will be a procession leaving at 10am to go to Forest Lawn.
