Barbara G. Thayer, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on April 1, 1933, in Indianapolis, Barbara was a devoted resident of Camby, where she cherished her home and the many memories created within its walls.
Barbara's life was defined by her loving spirit and her tenacity. She attended Decatur Central High School and dedicated 15 years of her life to her role as a housekeeper at Quality Inn, retiring in 1993. Her commitment to service extended beyond her profession, as she was an active member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church, nurturing her faith alongside a close-knit community.
As a passionate sports fan, Barbara took great joy in following the Indiana Pacers, often cheering loudly for her team. She also found solace in bowling and the great outdoors, whether it was fishing in tranquil waters or tending to her vibrant garden. The warmth of her home was often filled with the laughter of family as she hosted family gatherings, creating cherished memories for all who knew her.
Barbara was a feisty woman, known for her humor and love for her family. She is survived by her three children: Lloyd Owens Jr. (Yvonne) of Plainfield, Farrell McGuire (Mark) of Mooresville, and Susan Owens-Nilsson of Camby. She also leaves behind an expansive legacy of love with nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Barbara is additionally survived by her sister, Linda Dennison.
She was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings, including three brothers-Clarence, Carl, and Earl Gault-and four sisters-Lillian Rackley, Gladys Weaver, Ruby Hugill, and Winnie Patten.
A Public Visitation will take place at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville, beginning at 11:00 AM. The Funeral Service will commence at 1:00 PM, followed by a Graveside Service at Fairfield Friends Cemetery. Barbara will be laid to rest in Camby, Indiana, where she loved and lived deeply.
In celebrating Barbara's life, we remember the joy she brought to those around her and the unconditional love she shared with her family. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones.
