Anna Mae Cooper, 91, of Martinsville, left this earthly life on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital in Florida. She was born on August 12, 1931, in Waynesburg, Kentucky to the late Harrison Salyers and Sarah Lee (Falconbury) Salyers.
She grew up in Yosemite, Kentucky attending school in a three-room schoolhouse. In 1950, she married Norman Reed Terry Sr. and they moved to Indianapolis. They were blessed with two children, Wilma and Norman Jr. Norman and Anna later divorced. On November 27, 1974, she married Charles Kenneth Cooper. They enjoyed twenty-one years of marriage before he passed away on January 1, 1996.
Anna worked for RCA in Indianapolis as a tester. She was a member of the Eternal Life Baptist Church in Mooresville.
She loved her dog, Panda. She enjoyed sunbathing, camping, boating, and traveling. One of her favorite ways to vacation was by taking cruises. She enjoyed listening to country music. She also enjoyed cooking. In recent years, she enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Senior Retreat in Martinsville.
Anna is survived by her loving family including her daughter, Wilma Moore (husband, Alan Teague) of Martinsville; brother, Harrison "Clyde" (wife, Darlene) Salyers of Lexington, Indiana; grandchildren, Thomas Moore, Melissa Moore, Rachel Moore, Aundrea Sprague, and Norman Todd Terry; and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Sarah Salyers; husband, Charles Cooper; son, Norman Reed Terry Jr.; brothers, Coyle Salyers, Chester Salyers, and Clarence Salyers; and sisters, Sadie Salyers, Agnes Justice, and Melinda "Frances" Bastin.
Anna will be missed by Panda, her beloved Shih Tzu, who laid by her side until her very last day. Her memory will remain in the hearts of loved ones, and she will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to know her.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, May 6th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Jones Family Mortuary, 4165 E. Allison Road, Mooresville. A service celebrating Mrs. Cooper's life will immediately follow, beginning at 1:00 pm at Jones Family Mortuary. She will be laid to rest alongside her late husband, Charles and son, Norman Jr. in Bethel Cemetery in Indianapolis. Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville has been entrusted with the arrangements.
