Obituary for William H "Bill" Smith

William H "Bill" Smith, 79, of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, January 9th, 2021. He was born January 19th, 1941 in Indianapolis to his parents, Jesse William and Mildred Alice (Garver) Smith. He married Sue (Hibler) Smith on April 14th, 1962. He was a lifetime resident of Indianapolis.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Sue (Hibler) Smith of Indianapolis; three children: Brian (Devona Manion) Smith of Greencastle (ex-daughter-in-law, Trish Hodgson), Todd (Sherri) Smith of Greencastle, and Susan (Andy) Lorimer of Greencastle; nine grandchildren: Breana (Riley) Nungester, Lexi Smith, Casey (Chelsea) Smith, Ben (Marley) Smith, Tiffany Smith, Sarah Lorimer, Jacob Lorimer, David Lorimer, and Michael Lorimer; three great grandchildren: Alarik, Jamison and Liliann; and one sister, Fayrene (Rick) Cox of Avon. Bill is preceded in death by both of his parents.

Bill was a 1959 graduate of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. He was a graduate of FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and the Indiana State Police Academy. Bill was a Detective Sgt. for the Indiana State Police before retiring in 1998. During his time there Bill received a Bronze Star Award. He was the current owner and operator of WHS Stump Removal and also worked for Big Bounce Fun House Rentals. Bill was a member of Free Spirit Baptist Church in Indianapolis and of the Indiana State Police Alliance. He enjoyed playing men's softball for a number of years. He also enjoyed boating, skiing, fishing, hunting and anything outdoors. Bill was involved in go carts, cars and motorcycle racing when he was younger.

Please join us for a celebration of life experience honoring Bill Smith in the parking lot of Jones Family Mortuary, 4165 East Allison Road, Mooresville, Indiana 46158, anytime between 3pm to 6pm on Thursday January 14th. A 15 minute tribute video will be available for viewing with sound being broadcast over your FM radio. This is a unique viewing experience which will be available on a large video screen to be viewed from the safety of your own car. The funeral will also be available for live viewing also from the safety of your own car starting at 6pm. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville.

No in person visitation or funeral service will be available inside the building.
