Obituary for Thomas R. Lane

Thomas R. Lane, 84, of Monrovia, IN, died on July 18,2011, after fighting a 6 year battle with cancer. Thomas was born to James Lane & Katie (Donaghey) Lane Bruce in Hindsville, AR on December 6, 1926. He married his wife, Dorothy (Mason) Lane on March 17, 1948.

He came to Indiana at a young age, staying with his sister, Mary Hubbard of Friendswood, IN. He worked for various farmers before going to work for 32 years at Bridgeport Brass, retiring in 1975. He joined the U.S. Navy in Indianapolis, IN, serving 3 years. He participated in the dropping of the Atomic Bomb on Bikini Island, being discharged in October of 1947. Following retirement, he was a Carpenter-Foreman at the Indiana Boys School in Plainfield, IN for 11 years. He was a member of the Monrovia Nazarene Church, where served several years as Sunday School Superintendent. His hobby was wood working & making cabinets.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Mason) Lane of Monrovia, IN; 2 daughters, Sandra (Dan) Shaffer of Indianapolis, IN and Marla Luedeman of Monrovia, IN; 2 grandchildren, Amanda J. (Kyle) Farmer and Matthew M. Hanson; 2 Great Grandsons he adored, Trent & Jamie Farmer; 3 step grandchildren; Bonnie Hanson, Jake & Daniel Shaffer; 6 step great grandchildren; 1 brother, Clarence Lane of Martinsville, IN; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, James Lane & Katie (Donaghey) Lane Bruce; 6 sisters, Martha Bowlin, Mary Hubbard, Marie Lawson, Bertha Oxford, Marjorie Lawson & Dixie Oxford; 2 brothers, Truman & Luther Lane.

Calling will be from 4-8pm, Thursday, July 21, 2011 and 9-10am, Friday, July 22, 2011 at Jones Family Mortuary. A nephew, Steve Lane and Paul Drake will officiate the 10am funeral service on Friday, July 22,2011. Thomas will be laid to rest in White Lick Cemetery.
