Obituary for Stephen Paul Parks

Steve - 64 – Indianapolis, passed January 05, 2021. He was born July 29, 1956 in Indianapolis to the late Homer Kenneth Parks & Ella Alice Teckenbrock Parks Cunningham.

Steve was a graduate of Ben Davis High School and a member of the Mars Hill Free Methodist Church where he had many friends. In his youth he liked playing drums, fishing with his cousins and going on camping trips. Steve worked at the Spring training ball fields in Florida, with his uncle Paul remodeling homes and in body shop having trained as a skilled tech. Steve talked much of his extended Woods family in Brown County. He lost his father when 17 and although plagued throughout his life with debilitating disease, Steve was an example of humbleness and kindness to family and others. His faith in Jesus sustained him in his later years as he cared for his mother. He believed firmly in the Serenity Prayer, and was a sober example to his many friends within AA for over 20 years. Although never married he loved his family of aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews like no other. One commented “Even though Steve was far away I always knew he loved me!"

An avid NASCAR fan, Steve traveled to many races with his uncle Paul whom he loved dearly, collected much memorabilia and loved watching the races on TV.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Kenny & Ella, and his stepfather Ray Cunningham.

Steve is survived by Beverly Blake (Robert) loving sister, Lesli Nevarez (Ivan) & Kristin Salmon (Matt) nieces; Sophia Nevarez daughter of Lesli; Cameron Salmon son of Kristin; many cousins including, Jimmy Parks (Sheri), Joyce Wilson (Donnie), Sharon Juhlin (Curt), Mary Jane McCarthy, Deana, Charlene & Kyla along with Larry Cunningham (Karen), Angie, Brian, Brady, Jamie, Derek & Carisa.
