Obituary for Sheila Ann Firkins (Kemp)

Sheila Ann (Kemp) Firkins, 66, currently of Port Charlotte, FL passed away on October 26, 2021 in Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Sheila was born in Beech Grove, IN on June 30, 1955 to the late William and Ova Mae (Hutcherson) Kemp. She was a resident of Port Charlotte, Florida for the past two years, but was a resident of Indianapolis for most of her life.

Sheila enjoyed being a school bus driver and drove for Wayne Township Schools and Avon Community School Corporation in Indiana. She also drove for Pinellas County Schools in Florida for a short time. She most recently drove charter buses across the country, which she loved dearly.

Sheila loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, traveling, reading, writing poetry and going to the beach to watch the sunset. She also enjoyed growing beautiful plants and flowers. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her grandchildren.

Sheila was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by so many. Her strong faith in the Lord and the love for her children and grandchildren are an inspiration to all who knew her.

Sheila is survived by 4 children: Michael Firkins, Jr. of Versailles, IN, Todd (Cori) Firkins of Danville, IN, Jace (Cristen) Firkins of Indianapolis, IN and Jarrod Firkins of Indianapolis, IN; 8 grandchildren: Michaela, Cole, Seth, Sarah, Versie, Audie, Morgan and Malia; 3 brothers: Michael (Carolyn) Kemp, Mark (Laurie) Kemp and Audie Kemp; 2 sisters: Teresa (Wayne) VanVolkenburgh and Marissa Milliman. Sheila is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Vicki Lahrman.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 10 am to 1 pm on Thursday, November 4th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 pm following visitation. Sheila will be laid to rest at White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville.
