Obituary for Sammie C Wilson

Sammie C. Wilson, 81, of Camby, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 23rd, 2020. He was born January 8th, 1939 in Liberty, Kentucky to his parents, Coy and Clara (Pelley) Wilson. He married Cheryl (Hornaday) Wilson on August 24th, 2007. Sammie was a resident of Camby for most of his life.

Sammie is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Hornaday) Wilson of Camby; three children, Anne Marie Tye of Camby, Samuel Ray Wilson of Camby, and Sammie L. and (Lacey) Wilson of Camby; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; two brothers, David Wilson and Larry Wilson; and four sisters, Frances Wilson, Gloria Hanson, Nellie Pennington, and Barbara Weddle. Sammie is preceded in death by both of his parents; one brother, James Wilson; and one sister, Irene Payton.

Sammie joined the Army and was discharged on September 26th, 1965. He was a well driller owner and operator for several years and worked as a mechanic for himself. Sammie was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles as well as the American Legion Post #103. He loved working with his hands, fishing and hunting mushrooms.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 28th and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 29th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. Pastor Scotty Cockren will officiate a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 29th at the funeral home. Sammie will be laid to rest at West Newton Cemetery in West Newton.
