Obituary for Roland Spangler Summerlot

Roland Spangler Summerlot, 87, Martinsville, passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2015. Roland was born to Ernest J. and Emma (Spangler) Summerlot on May 7, 1927 in Bicknell. He was married to Naomi (Cassida) Summerlot. He graduated from Patricksburg High School in 1945, earned his BS in Business from Indiana University where he was also a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Honor Fraternity and earned his CPCU in Insurance. He was a World War II Army Veteran.

Roland was a Partner of F.C. Tucker Insurance Agency for 30 years from 1966-1996, retiring in 1997. Previously, he worked for Insurance Services Office from 1954-1966. He was a member of Coal City American Legion and Disabled American Veterans, 50 year member and twice Past Master of Brooklyn Masonic Lodge #471, Scottish Rite in Terre Haute, member of Mooresville United Methodist Church, and member of Lions Club. He served on the Mooresville Town Board from 1966-1981, where he served as President for two terms. He had lived in Mooresville for most of his life and several years in his birthplace of Patricksburg.

Roland is survived by five children, Ronald G. (Linda) Summerlot of Mooresville, Steven L. (Dian) Summerlot of Danville, Debbie (David) Mills of Plainfield, Scott A. Summerlot of Bloomington and Greg N. Summerlot of CO; seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Roland is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest J. and Emma Summerlot; spouse, Naomi Summerlot and two brothers, Harold and Gerald Summerlot.

Family and friends may gather from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015 and 9-10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 at Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. There will be a 7:30 p.m. Masonic Service on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Jones Family Mortuary. Pastor Stephen White will officiate the 10 a.m. celebration of life service on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 at Jones Family Mortuary. Roland will be laid to rest in White Lick Cemetery.
