Obituary for Robert E. Gardner

Robert Eugene Gardner, 89, of Findlay, OH, died on September 25, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Robert was born on August 15, 1923 in Findlay, OH to the late Pearl E. & Hazel (Chambers) Gardner. His wife, Nellie E. (Lentz) Gardner, whom he married on July 3, 1942 preceded him in death on September 11, 2007. Sister Verna Mae Davis & Brother John Clinton Gardner also preceded him in death.

Robert is survived by 2 daughters, Cathern (Charles) Paxton of Indianapolis, IN & Rita A. Langworthy of Flint, MI; 3 grandchildren, Sara (Lance) Brookshire of Greentown, IN; Abby Raikes of Plainfield, IN & Lin Randolph of New York City, NY; 5 great grandchildren & 6 adopted great grandchildren; a niece, Patti (Mike) Courtney & nephews, Jerry (Beth) Davis & Bob Davis, Jennifer & Celeste & their families.

Mr. Gardner graduated from Findlay Senior High School in 1941. He served in the US Army Transportation Corp from 1943-1946. Mr. Gardner retired as Findlay City Schools' Director of Transportation, a position he held from 1964-1985. He joined the district in the 1955-1956 school year as a bus driver and maintenance man. He left for one year in the late 1950's, but after returning, worked for the schools continuously through 1985. He was a long time member of Stonebridge Church of God (formerly East Foulke Ave. Church of God).

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 4-7pm at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville, IN. Visiation will also be held on Friday, September 28, 2012 from 3-6pm at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay,OH. Reverend Charles Paxton will officate the 6pm funeral service on Friday, September 28, 2012 at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home. A private graveside service & burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Camby Community Church Youth Ministries.
