Obituary for Rita H. Leonard

Rita H. Leonard, 90, of Martinsville, passed away peacefully on Sept. 27, 2014. Rita was born to Paul and Helen (Dimerau) Mathies on Feb. 5, 1924 in Cleveland, OH. Rita married Wendell Leonard on Aug. 14, 1988.

Rita was a Homemaker. She was a member of the Banta United Methodist Church and Mooresville Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and crossword puzzles. She has lived in Martinsville since 1988, Morgantown for 42 years and her birthplace of Cleveland, OH.

Rita is survived by a son, Joseph (Phillis) Ruggieri of AR; two step children, Philip Leonard of TN and Carlotta (Bill) Van Horn of Martinsville; 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Rita is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Helen Mathies; her husband, Wendell Leonard; two step daughters and three brothers.

Family and friends may gather from 5:30-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. There will be a 6:30 p.m. Eastern Star Service on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Jones Family Mortuary. Pastor Bill Van Horn will officiate the 7 p.m. celebration of life service on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Jones Family Mortuary. Rita will be laid to rest at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 2, 2014 in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
