Richard Randall Roberts, 87, of Plainfield, passed away Sunday, February 26th, 2023. He was born February 23rd, 1936 in Benham, Kentucky to his parents Phil Fannin and Ollie Mae (Pedigo) Roberts. He married the late Mary Elizabeth (Sims) Roberts on March 16th, 1957. He was a previous resident of Mooresville for 20 years and resided in Plainfield for the last 30 years.
Richard is survived by his two sons: Michael David (Susan) Roberts of Southampton, Pennsylvania and Gregory P. Roberts of Fishers, Indiana; one granddaughter, Rachel (Jeffrey) Lynch of Killeen, Texas; one great granddaughter, Hayle; two great grandsons: Landen and Talen; and several nieces and nephews. Richard is preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife, Mary Elizabeth Roberts; and two sisters: Phyllis Lile and Roberta Sowers.
Richard was a 1955 graduate of Ahrens Trade School in Louisville, Kentucky. He later joined the United States Air Force. Richard was a Air Traffic Controller for F.A.A. for 27 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Mooresville Masonic Lodge #78 and attended Gasburg Baptist Church. Richard was a ham radio enthusiast and enjoyed flying. At one time, he had his pilot license. During his younger years, Richard enjoyed being a part of the boy scouts, explorer scouts, little league baseball, and was even a Sunday school teacher.
Family and friends may show their love and support from 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday, March 4th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm following visitation at the funeral home. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Mortuary.
