Obituary for Richard S. Powell

Richard S. Powell, 85, Brooklyn, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at The Gathering Together in Plainfield. Richard was born in Henderson, KY on May 6, 1929 to John and Myrtie (McRoy) Powell. Richard married Frances A. (Lowry) Powell on March 23, 1977.

Richard lived in Brooklyn since 1976. He served in the United States Army. He was a Truck Driver for United Van Lines for 35 years. He enjoyed football and was an avid racing fan.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Debbie Garrett of Indianapolis; son, Richard D. Powell of Arkansas; 19 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; 4 step children: Robert Dale Dyer Jr. of Martinsville, Kim Dyer of Alabama, Kevin Dyer of Alabama and Dawn Logan of Westfield; special companion, Phyllis Worden of Brooklyn and sister, Martha Pence of Morristown. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Frances A. (Lowry) Powell; son, Ronald Powell; 2 daughters: Gayle Test and Kathy Smith and step son, Randall Dyer.

There will be visiting hours from 11am to 12:15pm, Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Jones Family Mortuary. Kevin Dyer will officiate the memorial service on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 12:15pm also at Jones Family Mortuary. Richard will be laid to rest in Brooklyn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Gathering Together, 147 North Center St., Plainfield, IN 46168.
