Obituary for Meredith Richard (Bill) Armstrong

Meredith Richard "Bill" Armstrong, 80, passed away January 24, 2010. He was born in West Newton, IN on December 17, 1929 to Helen (Park) and Howard Armstrong.He was a life long resident of West Newton, IN

He graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1947 and received a Bachelors of Arts Degree from Indiana Central College. His career started as a telephone operator for the West Newton exchange. He then spent time with the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He retired from General Motors Acceptance Corporation as a field representative in 1982 before spending time with the Enterprise Car Leasing and First Indiana Bank. He was a member of the West Newton United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and the West Newton Chapter of the Masonic Lodge #707. He served as President and Treasurer of the National Association of Avon Collectors. He was an Marine Corp Staff Sgt. from the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Mary Lillian Taubman. Survivors include wife, Joan (Snyder) Armstrong of West Newton, IN, children, Bruce (Susan) Armstrong of Greenwood, IN and Dr. Nancy (Brad) Melser of Fishers, IN, grandsons Ryan Armstrong, Nicholas Armstrong, and Tyler Melser.

Calling hours For Bill will be from 4-8pm, Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Jones Family Mortuary and from 12:30-1:30pm, Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at West Newton United Methodist Church. The Funeral will be at 1:30pm, Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the West Newton United Methodist Church in West Newton, IN. Mike Brockway will officiate the service and Bill will be laid to rest at West Newton Cemetery.Memorial Contributions may be made to the West Newton United Methodist Church, 6843 Mendenhall Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46221.
