Obituary for Mary L. Spaulding (Parsons)

Mary L. (Parsons) Spaulding has gone away from her earthly family to be with her eternal family. She was so loving, kind and thoughtful that everyone cherished her. Although none of us were ready for her to leave, her little body was just worn out. We are sure that if anyone in our family made it to heaven, Mom currently has a front row seat.

Mary was born on May 6th, 1935 to William E. and Gladys (Bowden) Parsons in Shoals, IN. She attended school in Huron, IN. Although she did not graduate from Huron High School, she later decided she wanted all her children to at least have a high school education, so she hit the books and earned her GED in her late 30's, so she could impress upon her children the need for education. She was pretty proud of that piece of paper.

She married Wilber Spaulding on October 9th, 1954 in Huron, IN and they shared 66 wonderful years until he passed away in February 2021. They resided in the Friendswood area for most of their married lives.

Mary was a homemaker early in her marriage, choosing to stay home with her children during their younger years. She was very skilled at knitting, crocheting, quilting, and ironing (yes, I said ironing). She sold some of her crochet work and did ironing for some neighbors to have a little income of her own.

She entered the workforce when the youngest son, Roger was in Jr. High. She worked at several factories over the years including Bridgeport Brass, Best Foods, Mallory and Federal Mogul.

Mary was someone who was very active. She always wanted to be busy. She very much loved her crocheting and quilting, but was happiest when she could be outside working in one of her many flower beds. She also loved to attend church services at Mt. Gilead, where she was a member. She had previously been a member and attended services at Friendswood Baptist and Valley Mills Christian Church, before moving to Brooklyn.

Mary is survived by her children: Diana & (Danny) Winings, Ron Spaulding, David Spaulding and daughter-in-law Kim Spaulding. She had nine grandchildren: Chris & (Dawn) Winings, Jennifer Winings, Bonnie Winings, Danielle & (Braden) Randles, Lindsay & (Chris) Jones, Nick & (Star) Spaulding, Matt & (Emily) Spaulding, Michael Spaulding, and Cody Spaulding. She also had seven great grandchildren. She made it a point not to miss anyone's birthday by sending them a card, even though there were so many of us!

Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Margie (Parsons) Abel, her brothers: Donald Parsons and James Parsons; and an infant sister, Christine, who died at four days. She was the last surviving family member. Her spouse, Wilber passed away in February 2021 and her youngest son, Roger passed away in July 2022.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 11 am to 1 pm on Thursday, November 10th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 pm following visitation on Thursday, November 10th at the funeral home. Mary will be laid to rest beside her husband at White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville with a graveside service immediately following the funeral.
