Mary Elizabeth 'Betty' Fields, 99 of Camby, left this world to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 27, 2010. She was married to Carlton W. Fields who preceded her in death in 1981. Betty is survived by her daughter Sharon Raymond (Gene), son Dr. Bruce C. Fields (Barbara), six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren

Betty was born on April 30, 1910 to Ernest and Cena Cook in Monrovia, Indiana. She grew up on their small farm and rode to kindergarten in a horse drawn school bus. She realized at a young age that she wanted to pursue a career in music. So after graduation from Monrovia, she attended Indiana Central University during the Great Depression and graduated with a degree in music education. During her career she taught at Morgantown and Decatur Central High Schools. She also worked for the Marion County School System as the music coordinator for all of the township schools. During that time, she hosted two public service television shows, 'Roads to Learning' and 'Summer Show Time'. She finished her career by teaching piano techniques, music fundamentals, and music methods to elementary education majors at IUPUI.

Betty shared Carlton's passion and pride in their champion purebred Arabian horses. Their breeding and show farm was nationally known and their horses were very successful in the show ring for over 30 years. She cherished all the great times we had and the wonderful friendships formed with the people in the Arabian horse world

After retirement, Betty loved traveling with lady friends and attending her grandchildren's ballgames and school activities. She especially enjoyed college basketball road trips to North Carolina.

Throughout her life, Betty loved to use her musical skills in her spiritual life. Ever since she could play the piano, she accompanied the choir and soloists at church. Then she began to direct the church choirs for Sunday church services and special performances. Eventually the opportunity arose for her to produce and direct a community Easter Pageant that developed into a very effective and successful evangelistic event which told the story of Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. During its 50-year run, many things changed with the Easter Pageant as it grew and improved. But, Betty's dedication and determination to praise and glorify God by presenting the Easter story to the best of her ability was a constant. Now, she is enjoying her life after death that her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ promised.

Friends are invited to call at Jones Crossing Banquet Center in Mooresville, Indiana from 2-8pm, Thursday, March 4, 2010. A celebration of life funeral service will be held at Jones Crossing Banquet Center (right next door to Jones Family Mortuary)at 10am, Friday, March 5, 2010.
