Obituary for Mary Martha Brickley-McCoun (Turpin)

Mary Martha (Turpin) Brickley-McCoun, 90, of Plainfield, Indiana passed away Wednesday, September 30th, 2020. She was born November 20th, 1929 in Beech Grove to her parents, Carl and Martha (Armstrong) Turpin. She married the late Robert E. Brickley on June 15th, 1952 and later married the late Dan E. McCoun Sr. on June 9th, 1978. Mary was a resident of Indianapolis for most of her life.

Mary is survived by her five sons: Robert W. (Debra) Brickley of Mooresville, Gerald W. (Wendy) Brickley of Clermont, Richard D. (Kim) Brickley of Fishers, Dan E. (Betty) McCoun Jr. of Indianapolis, and Michael (Cindy) McCoun of Florida; one daughter, Brooke L. (Paul) Kottkamp of Indianapolis; 15 grandchildren; and several great and great great grandchildren. Mary is preceded in death by both of her parents; her first husband, Robert E. Brickley; and her second husband, Dan E. McCoun.

Mary was a 1947 graduate of Shortridge High School. She got her BS in education in 1957 from Butler University and later went to get her Master's in 1976 from Butler University. Mary was an elementary teacher at Indianapolis Public Schools for 5 years and at Perry Township for 23 years and before retiring in 1992. She was a member of Sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma at Butler University and a member of the Internationally Yours, Daughter of the Revolution (Past Regent of the Mary Brian Chapter DAR). She was also a member of the Kappa Delta Pi and the Who's Who of Teachers. She was a member of Friendswood Baptist Church as well.

Family and friends may show their love and support from on 11 am to 1 pm on Tuesday, October 6th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, October 6th at the funeral home. Mary will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.
