Obituary for Linda Elizabeth Cox (Mindrup)

Linda Elizabeth (Mindrup) Cox
1948-2020

God called one of his angel’s home this week. Linda joined her parents, James Mindrup and Martinez (La Croix) Mindrup, along with her brother Tom in Heaven.

Linda grew up on the near Eastside of Indianapolis on Oxford St. with her parents, Jim and Bunny Mindrup; her sisters: Mary Ann and Nancy; and her brothers: Tom and Ken. She attended St. Phillip Neri Catholic School and graduated from Scecina Memorial High School.

She was lovingly married to and survived by her husband, John Cox and their children: Johnny, Jeff, Greg, Paxton, and Kenny. She was grandmother to 14 grandchildren and great grandmother to 6.

If you were to visit Linda at her home, you would not arrive at a mansion, but at a modest home in a yard filled with a million different shrubs and plants, some toys laying in the yard, and a tired, worn out basketball goal at the end of the driveway.

Upon entering, apart from the massive amount of pictures of family and loved ones, you would see lots of “things”. Linda was a collector of things. Things like hand-made ornaments and pictures.Things like board games and project materials. Boxes and drawers full of things like video cassettes and flash drives. You would also see things around her home that to most might appear meaningless, like a box of sea shells, a piece of drift wood hanging on the wall, or perhaps a massive display of nutcrackers on a table. But to those of us that know her, knew that attached to every one of those things was a memory or purpose. Those hand made ornaments and pictures were made by her family. The closets full of games and crafts were played with her grandchildren. The boxes of cassettes… decades of little moments that she stored for us to look back on. Those seashells were collected from the beach that she loved and walked for hours either by herself or with her loved ones. That driftwood…she found that stuck between 2 rocks in the cascading creek at the Chimney tops campground in the smokey mountains. The nutcrackers… symbols of her past. As a child, she was mesmerized by ballet, she still has a ballerina bracelet that her parents gave her. They represent cherished time that she spent with her sisters and other family, going to see the Nutcracker Suite.

Looking around, you will most definitely see a Notre Dame Shrine. Yes, she loved the Blue and Gold, but not as much as the connection that it gave her to her husband, children, and now grandchildren. We always knew that on any given Saturday we could go to Memaw’s and there would be a warm pot of chili on the stove and ND on the big screen.

Lastly, (or perhaps mostly) you will see Linda’s faith in God scattered throughout every room in her home. Whether it be a crucifix on the wall, a statue of Mary on a shelf or Sister Angelica on the tv. Linda was a living example sent here by God to show us how to live, how to treat each other and how to serve Him in our daily lives. She is one of the most powerful prayers I know.

By most definitions, Linda was not a rich woman. But to me…she was the richest woman I knew. She was rich in sea shells… driftwood… nutcrackers… faith… and absolutely loaded with love.

The family will be holding a visitation on Friday, October 16th, from 4 pm - 8 pm at Jones Family Mortuary, 4165 E. Allison Road, Mooresville, IN 46158. There will be Funeral Mass on Saturday, October 17th, beginning at 11am at St. Ann Catholic Church, 6350 S. Mooresville Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46221. Following services Linda will be cremated.
