Obituary for James (Jay) Dewey Farmer

James "Jay" Dewey Farmer, 81, Mooresville, IN, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2013. James "Jay" was born to Dewey & Susie (Cottongim) Farmer on May 12, 1931 in Somerset, KY. Jay married his childhood sweetheart, Vera (Phelps) Farmer on April 1, 1950.

Jay was a Factory Worker for Bridgeport Brass in Indianapolis, IN for 36 years, retiring in 1987. He also was a Farmer in retirement. Jay was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church & Morgan County Cattleman's Association. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid gardener. Jay has lived in Mooresville, IN since 1991, Avon, IN for 13 years and his birthplace of Somerset, KY for 17 years.

Jay is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vera (Phelps) Farmer of Mooresville, IN; a daughter, Patty (Dan) Johnson of Avon, IN; a son, Marvin (Beverly) Farmer of Carmel; 3 grandchildren, Jason, Andrew & Amanda; 5 great grandchildren, Weston, Adam, Ryan, Sarah & David; a brother, John Bryce Farmer of Waverly, IN. Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Dewey & Susie (Cottongim) Farmer; 3 sisters & 1 brother.

Family & friends may attend calling hours from 4-8 pm, Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville, IN & 10-11 am, Friday, April 26, 2013 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 6161 E. Centenary Rd., Mooresville, IN. Bill Van Horn will officiate the 11 am Celebration of Life Service at Centenary United Methodist Church on Friday, April 26, 2013. Jay will be laid to rest in Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery.
