Obituary for Gladys W Dorrell (Westerfield)

Gladys W. (Westerfield) Dorrell, 94, of Loogootee, passed away Saturday, May 2nd, 2020. She was born August 13th, 1925 in Danville to her parents, Hubert and Leona (Schenck) Westerfield. She married Homer Ralph Dorrell on July 20th, 1947. She resided in Danville for 10 years and later on lived in West Newton and Indianapolis most of her life.

Gladys is survived by her three loving children: Harold Leslie (Pat) Dorrell of Loogootee, Dale Eugene (Karen) Dorrell of Newton, Iowa, and Dean Allen Dorrell and Glenda Standish of Washington; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and two sisters: Opal Barnett of Frankfort and Phyllis Barnett of Franklin. Gladys is preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Homer Ralph Dorrell; two brothers: Lewis Westerfield and Alton Westerfield; and two sisters: Marjorie Tigner and Viola Bangel.

Gladys was a 1943 graduate of Decatur Central High School and went on to complete three years at Methodist Hospital Nursing School. She was a Registered Nurse for 17 years for Visiting Nurse Association doing home health care before retiring in 1980. She was a member of West Newton Friends Meeting, Western Yearly Meeting and Friends United Meeting. She served 8 1/2 years as missionary with her husband, Homer in Kenya, East Africa. Gladys was a member of United Society of Friends Women (USFW), she was also a member of Indiana State Nurses Association as well as the Gideons International Ladies Auxiliary.

Family and friends may show their love and support for a memorial service at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 7th, 2021 at West Newton Friends Meeting, 6800 S Mooresville Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46221. A family visitation will be held following services.
