George Thomas Long, 82, of Martinsville, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2023. George was born in Indianapolis on October 18, 1940 to the late George Albert and Barbara (Hensley) Long.
George was a 1958 graduate of Howe High School. He was a Press Operator for Howard Sams for 27 years before retiring. George was a hard worker and enjoyed landscaping and gardening. He also loved to watch Jeopardy, reading, doing crossword puzzles and can't forget he was an avid Cubs fan. George was known as the glue that held everything together and loved spending time with his family.
George is survived by his four children: Cynthia Long of Arizona, George W. (Anna) Long of Irvington, Nancy Burcham of Indianapolis and Michelle (Wes) Stevens of Martinsville; 15 Grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and one brother, Eric Robinson.
George's family was recognized as a Gold Star family as his son, Major Stephen Long, passed away in the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon.
George is preceded in death by his parents; life long companion, Betti McClain, two sons: Major Stephen Long and David Long and one son in law, Chuck Faulk.
Family and friends may show their love and support during a memorial gathering from 1-2pm, Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Jones Crossing Banquet Center, 4161 East Allison Rd. Mooresville, IN 46158 next to Jones Family Mortuary. Eric Robinson will officiate the celebration of life following the visitation at 2pm at the banquet center.
Arrangements are entrusted to Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville.
