Obituary for Gary Ray Matthew
Gary Ray Matthew, 74, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, November 19th, 2021. He was born January 13th, 1947 in Bedford to his parents, Ray Louis and Ruth Fern (Smith) Matthew. He was a resident of Indianapolis for most of his life.
Gary is survived by his significant other of 32 years, Ricky Guffey of Indianapolis; his son, Gary Ray Matthew II of Monrovia; daughter in law, Tina Matthew; three grandchildren: Austin Matthew, Scott Matthew, and Olivia Matthew; one sister, Brenda (Carol Brown) Mathus of Venus, Texas; and one great grandson, Norman Matthew. Gary is preceded in death by both of his parents, his grandparents, and one son, Bradley Matthew.
Gary was a 1965 graduate of George Washington High School. He later joined the United States Army. Gary was a Tool Mechanic for Allison Transmission Division of GM for 44 years before retiring. He was a member of Mooresville American Legion and a member of Central Christian Church in Indianapolis. Gary loved working with his hands, he loved working on cars and was always willing to help. He was really an All- American man.
Family and friends may show their love and support from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, November 26th and from 10 to 11 am on Saturday, November 27th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Saturday November 27th following visitation at the funeral home. Gary will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
