Obituary for Fred N. "Skip" Smithers III

Fred N. "Skip" Smithers III, 79, of Camby, passed away Sunday, September 26th, 2021. He was born September 2nd, 1942 in Indianapolis to his parents, Fred and Mildred (Staggs) Smithers Jr. He married Jocelyn (Johnson) Smithers on May 15th, 1962. Although he was a resident of Indianapolis for most of his life, he resided in Camby for the past 20 years.

Skip is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jocelyn (Johnson) Smithers of Camby; one daughter, Justine (Jon) St. Arnaud; three grandchildren: Jessica (JR) Pruitt, Clayton (Holly) Fink, and Brianne St. Arnaud; three great grandsons: Jaxson Pruitt, Jace Pruitt, and Harvey Fink; and one sister, Suzanne West. Skip is preceded in death by both of his parents.

Skip was a 1961 graduate of George Washington High School. He was a Union Brick Mason out of Local #4 for 50 years before retiring in 2004. He worked on many commercial buildings and schools in and around Indianapolis, including The OneAmerica Tower, formerly AUL Tower, Eli Lilly building and the Eiteljorg Museum. Skip was a member of the Indy Hi-Winders Car Club for 59 years. He loved Nascar and Hot Rods. Skip enjoyed reading, especially science and learning about the universe.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, September 30th and from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Friday, October 1st at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. A celebration of life service will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, October 1st at the funeral home. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Mortuary.
