Obituary for Eugene Roberts Bensheimer

Eugene Roberts Bensheimer, 95, of Greenwood, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2015. He was born to Phillip Amos and Hazel (Roberts) Bensheimer on January 27, 1920 in Franklin. He graduated from Union Township High School in Johnson County in 1939. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, Boatswain's Mate serving in both theaters on the U.S.S. Almaack. He married Novella (Matney) Sheetz Bensheimer on December 31, 1988.

Eugene was a farmer in Trafalgar, a self-employed truck driver, and worked for Sodrel Truck Lines in Indianapolis. He attended Oak Park Baptist Church in Indianapolis. He was a member of the Franklin American Legion #205 and Trafalgar Masonic Lodge #413. He lived most of his life in Franklin and spent 26 years in Indianapolis.

Eugene is survived by two stepdaughters, Betty (Richard) Basore of Indianapolis, Wanda (Michael) Healy of Indianapolis; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a brother, George Bensheimer of Franklin; two sisters, Mary Ann Gray of OH and Frances Johnson of Columbus. Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Amos and Hazel (Roberts) Bensheimer; wife, Novella (Matney) Sheetz Bensheimer; a sister, Lucille Bensheimer; three brothers, Robert, Arthur "Bill" and Kenneth "Sam" Bensheimer.

Family and friends may gather from 3-8 p.m., Friday, August 14, 2015 and 9:30-10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. Dr. Brenda DeCoursey will officiate the 10:30 a.m. celebration of life service on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Jones Family Mortuary. Eugene will be laid to rest in Mooresville Cemetery, Mooresville.
