Obituary for Ernest Leroy Dawson Sr.

Ernest Leroy "Ernie" Dawson Sr., 77, of Rockville, went to be with the lord on Thursday, October 31st, 2019 surrounded by family. He was born December 13th, 1941 in Hall to Raymond and Agnes (Foster) Dawson. He Married Diane (Short) Dawson on June 21, 1963. He was a resident of Indianapolis for 20 years, then lived in Mooresville for 18 years. He lived in Rockville for 23 years.

Ernie is survived by his wife Diane (Short) Dawson of Rockville for 56 years; four loving children, Ernest Leroy Dawson Jr of Indianapolis, Russell Dawson of Rockville, Dustin Dawson of Danville, and Ryan (Debra) Dawson of Camby; six grandchildren, Bradley, Cassidey, Madison, Morgan and October Dawson and Matthew Atwood 3 great grandchildren, Riley and Marijane Dawson, and Mason Atwood; and one sister, Patty Davis. Ernie is preceded in death by both of his parents and one brother, Raymond Dawson.

Ernie is a 1961 graduate of Decatur Central High School. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam war. Ernie was a machinist for Allison Transmission for 27 years and retired in 1993. He was a member of Parkeville Community Christian Church and also attended Friendswood Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Wayne Post #64. He was known as "Bald Eagle" in the CB Community. He loved spending time with his family. Ernie also enjoyed wood working and fishing.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, November 4th and from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. Pastor John Cornell and Wayne Alexander will officiate a celebration life service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5th at the funeral home. Ernie will be laid to rest at Centerton Cemetery in Centerton.
