Obituary for Reverend Odus R. Cummings

Reverend Odus R. Cummings, 93, of Indianapolis, went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2019. He was born on July 22, 1925 to Thomas Love and Bertha (Maynard) Cummings in Sanford, FL. He served honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He married Grace E. (Little) Cummings on November 2, 1946.

Odus is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Grace Cummings of Indianapolis; three loving children, Alice Cummings of Washington D.C., Cheryl King of Indianapolis, Danny Cummings of CA; a loving brother, David Cummings; three sisters, Anna Nagel, Leta Cummings and Chrystell Riley. He is preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Huel, Printus and Eugene Cummings.

Odus was a Machinist at Allison's Transmission, General Motors Division for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He was a former Pastor and current member of Freedom Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis. He was a member of the Indianapolis Masonic Lodge #669. He was an avid carpenter and enjoyed reading the bible. He has lived in Indianapolis since 1951, Byrdstown, TN and his birthplace of Sanford, FL for three years.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 5-7 p.m., which also includes a 6:30 p.m. Masonic service on Wednesday, June 12th and 9-10 a.m. on Thursday, June 13th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. Brother Ronnie Carter, Brother Billy Moran and Brother Jeff Moran will officiate Odus's celebration of life service at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 13th at the funeral home. Odus will be laid to rest at West Newton Cemetery.
