Obituary for Susie L. Doughty (Ash)
Susie L. (Ash) Doughty, 99, of Mooresville, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2018. She was born to William J. and Ethel Mae (Gresham) Ash on October 14, 1918 in Eckerty, IN.
Susie grew up during the Depression on the family farm in Crawford County. She worked in Princeton and Indianapolis before settling in Evansville, where she worked in the factories to support the war effort in World War II. She met her future husband, Everett Doughty, there; and they were married on August 7, 1941. He and four of her brothers went to serve in the war and all returned. In 1954 Susie and her husband established their family home in Posey County.
Susie is survived by a loving son, Bruce J. (Debra) Doughty of Mooresville; four granddaughters, Miriam Bible, Suzanna Spiker, Elaine Reed and Stephanie Wilson; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Alexis Reed, Hanah Smith, Keira Bible, Noah and Lucy Spiker. Susie is preceded in death by her parents; husband; nine siblings, Lloyd and Lowell Ash, Mae Kidwell, Bernice Sturm, Imogene Morey, Omer, Howard, Roy, and George Ash; two stepsons, Wayne and Donald Doughty.
Family and friends may pay their respects from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, January 14th in Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville with a celebration of life service starting at 4 p.m. Family and friends may also gather from 1-2 p.m. CST on Tuesday, January 16th in Locust Hill Cemetery, 3800 Kratzville Rd., Evansville, IN 47710 with Roger Ash officiating Susie's celebration of life service at 2 p.m. She will also be laid to rest in the cemetery following the service.
Memorial contributions can be made in Susie's memory to Riley Hospital for Children, 30 S. Meridian St., Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46204-3509.
