William Quentin  Wood
William ‘Quentin’ Wood, 99, of Camby passed away peacefully on December 30, 2017. He was the first born to the late William Wood and Nellie Brewer Wood in November 1918. He lived with them in Sandborn, IN until his graduation from Sandborn High School in 1936. He graduated from Franklin College in 1940 with a BS in Chemical Engineering.

After graduation he worked for E.I DuPont as a chemist in New Jersey and Tennessee where munitions were manufactured. He joined Reilly Laboratories in Indianapolis in 1950 where he managed a production portion of the company’s manufacturing.division. He remained with the company until his retirement in 1985.

Quentin met Lucille Wasoski in the spring of 1942 and sent a letter to his Mother telling her that Lucille was ‘the one’ They married October 3, 1942 in Memphis Tennessee and celebrated their 75th anniversary this past year.

Quentin was an active member of West Newton United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, worked with a group with building their current church and continued to help with repairs and upkeep for many years. After his retirement he volunteered for the UMC Mission ‘Volunteers Building for God. The Mission built churches or church additions throughout the US but Quentin and Lucille primarily opted for Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.

Quentin was an avid gardener, growing vegetables, fruit and flowers. He maintained an orchard that at times included apples, pears, cherries, plums and walnuts. He always planted enough to eat, preserve and share. Many friends and neighbors enjoyed his bounty. He always refused payment telling everyone to put an envelope in the offering plate at their church.

He enjoyed reading, woodworking, music, fishing, travel and placed an extremely high value in education. He shared all of those with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister Martha (Darrell) Goodwin, brothers Eugene Wood, John Wood, infant son James Alan Wood and great grandsons Daniel Dean and Brayden Pennington.

Left to honor Quentin and cherish his memory are his wife Lucille, children Shirley Wood, David (Melissa) Wood, Joyce Wood and Jim Wood. Grandchildren Kelly Givan, Bill Givan, Scott (Dawn) Wood, Heather (Jon) Gerhardt, Jennifer (Chris) Pennington, Rebecca Dean, Tammy (Rob) Revel and Jeremy Wood. He had 12 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews.

Pastor Anne Gatts will officiate Quentin's celebration of life service at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 5th in West Newton United Methodist Church, 6843 Mendenhall Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46221 with calling hours starting at 1 p.m. Quentin will be laid to rest in West Newton Cemetery.
