L. Wanita (Searcy) Northern, 89, of Indianapolis, went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2017. L. Wanita was born to Robert A. and Lennie M. (Thacker) Searcy on September 21, 1927 in Amo. She married Harlan William (Jim) Northern on June 17, 1942.

L. Wanita was a homemaker. She was a member of Calvary Bible Wesleyan Church in Plainfield. She enjoyed sewing, puzzles, and family. She lived in Indianapolis for 44 years, grew up in Brown County and Martinsville and lived a short time in her birthplace of Amo.

L. Wanita is survived by seven children, Darlene Wilson of Martinsville, Gene (Paula) Northern of Paragon, Maurice (Deelee) Northern of Mooresville, Robert (Paulette) Northern of Morgantown, Virginia (Tim Reed) Woods of Carmel, Rebecca (Jeff) Hill of Speedway and Joyce Northern of Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren, Shelley, Charlotte, Kimberly, Chris, Jeanette, Steve, Brian, Cheri, David, Trina, Makayla, Mike and Bill; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Kershaw; three brothers, Revin Searcy, Donald Moore and Leon (Melvin) Moore. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Robert (Doc) Searcy, Marvin Searcy, Freddie Searcy and William Searcy; two sisters, Thelma Radcliff and Ellen Mattingly.

Family and friends may gather for calling hours from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 and 9-10 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 in Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. Pastor Rollin Mitchell will officiate L. Wanita's celebration of life service at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 in Jones Family Mortuary. She will be laid to rest in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Monrovia.
