Obituary for Jack M. Bennett Sr.

Jack M. Bennett Sr., 85, of Zionsville, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2017 with his loving family by his side. He was born to Homer Lee and Ora L. (Lawrence) Bennett on December 9, 1931 in Indianapolis. He graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1949. He served honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Norma Jean (Miller) Bennett on March 27, 1954.

Jack was a Supervisor for Yellow Freight Systems in Indianapolis for 10 years, retiring in 1996. Previously, he worked as a Supervisor for McLean Trucking Company from 1962-1985. He attended Traders Point Christian Church in Whitestown. He was a member of Bridgeport F &AM Masonic Lodge #162, Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine and Zionsville American Legion Post 79. He lived in Zionsville for the past 15 years, but lived most of his life in Decatur Township.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of nearly 63 years, Norma Bennett of Zionsville; five children, Debi (Rick) Vaughn of Zionsville, Jackie (Cindy) Bennett Jr. of Zionsville, Thomas Bennett of Zionsville, Michael (Jane) Bennett of Pittsboro and Michele (Michael) Thometz of Walnut Creek, CA; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Donna Martin; two brothers, Homer Bennett Jr. and William Bennett; and a sister, Betty Carmichael.

Family and friends may gather from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 with a masonic service starting at 7:30 p.m. and 9-10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 in Jones Crossing Banquet Center, next door to Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. Pastor Howard Brammer will officiate Jack's celebration of life service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 in Jones Crossing Banquet Center. Jack will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
