Obituary for Irene Helton (Carrender)

Irene (Carrender) Helton, 76, of Mooresville, Indiana passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at her home . Irene was born on May 4, 1939 in Frazier, KY to Judge and Alta (Turpin) Carrender. She married Paul V. Helton on September 30, 1961 and they were married for 42 years.

Irene was born and raised in Frazier, KY. She later moved to Mooresville with her daughter Bobbie where she lived for 7 years. She also spent 42 years in Indianapolis. She was a seamstress for Aero Industries in Indianapolis for 30 years before retiring in 2009. She enjoyed making quilts, watching the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers, playing bingo, going to the casino, playing Hoosier Lottery and even appeared on the Hoosier Millionaire Show. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Irene is survived by 6 children: Betty Keith of Elyria, OH, Paula James of Amherst, OH, Bruce (Kellie) Helton of Freedom, IN, James Glenn Helton of Indianapolis, IN, Bobbie (Joe) Bollin of Mooresville, IN and Linda (Kenny) Duff of Indianapolis, IN; 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; brother, Hubert Carrender; 3 sisters: Edna Keith, Lois Keith and Christeen Black. Irene is also preceded by her parents, Judge and Alta (Turpin) Carrender; husband, Paul V. Helton; son, Paul V. Helton Jr.; 2 brothers, Herman and Homer Carrender and sister, Jean Rose.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2016 and 10-11 a.m., Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. Pastor Charles Paxton will officiate Irene's celebration of life service at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Jones Family Mortuary. Irene is being laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN.
